Has anybody used Fleksy (f l e k s y), the app that is supposed to make typing a lot faster, like faster than a sighted person, on the IPhone? I'm debating on trying it, but it is $15. I have the trial version, but am wondering if you can reply to texts with it. Like when someone sends a text reply with the app immediately? Any thoughts or tips about this app?
the site for it is
www.fleksy.com
Thanks!

Hi Jen, With the trial version, you can't do that; also, you can't copy the text to the clipboard, and paste it into other apps. HTH

exactly, its a waist of money in my opinion. Having to port text over from fleckxy to other aps just sounds incredibly cumbersom.

You can send messages and emails and stuff. I like it, but $15? Anybody ever tried typeinbraille? it's cool too, but I don't use it much.

I tried Flecksy, but I found it actually made my typing slower because voiceover wouldn't always read the characters I type. Having to pick from a list of words is all well and good, but I found the whole process to be a little wierd. Also as someone said, having to have an actual ap screen to type in, then port all that text to another app is just silly. I use dragon naturally speaking, because it allows me to dictate my texts slightly better than the Siri dictation, but it's the same way. It's a needless extra step. Now, if you were able to change the keyboard and voice input in settings, that might be a different story. As one who is used to typing fivty plus words a minute, I personally find the Iphone's typing capabilities extremely frustrating. I'd be interested to try the type-in-braille app, providing it worked and didn't require the same steps as Dragon and Flecksy, but I don't really want to pay for something without being sure it's worth it. For all the things the Iphone is great at, typing definately isn't one of them.

Just read that Flecksy is on sale today (Aug 16) for $4.99 if anyone wants to get it. I've resisted because of the whole having to copy and paste thing, but I'm considering giving it a shot since it's on sale. $15 is just ridiculous. Really, $4.99 is still too much, but at least it's tolerable.

Gosh darn it that pesky $15. (or $5 today). It's not like I paid at least $200 for my iPhone, $60 [or more] for my cell phone bill, $50 for my Otterbox and maybe $80 for my Mophie. Oh, and $6,000 for my Pacmate [that hasn't been updated in years] and $1,000 for my KNFB and Jaws and $395 for my Mobile Speak and at least $2,000 for my little Braille display and several hundred for Wayfinder Access and $10 or so for Look Tell money reader ... and can you believe Sendero seriously asked me for $4.99 for their GPS app, Too?.

But that $15 to dramatically improve my typing speed, plus two almost immediate free updates and a free trial is so profoundly prohibiting. It's just not right, y'all.

I like using Fleksy. I do type faster with it and yeah I kind of wish I had waited for today's lower price but I am not complaining.

I got the free trial of Fleksy a few days ago, and yesterday I decided to upgrade to the full version, not knowing it was on sale. Lucky coincidence for me I guess. It can make typing faster in some cases, but sometimes I fear the list of words is going to be a bit too long. Dog dug fog fig dig gig hug etc. In such cases one wonders if auto correct on the old fashioned keyboard would be more efficient. Still, I've only been using it for a few days and my speed has drastically improved since the first day I used the Fleksy keyboard. I haven't used it enough to really have a firm opinion, but it is definitely worth checking out.

I have no objection to paying for apps. $15 seems high to me just for a different way to type when I'm already happy with the built in keyboard and my bluetooth keyboard. It's just a personal cost / benefit analysis on my part. No need to be snarky about it. For what it's worth, I did buy it on sale. I haven't tinkered with it very long, but so far, I don't really see why everyone is so orgasmic over Fleksy. It's an interesting way to type and maybe I'll like it more after I practice a bit. It was worth the $5 I paid for it and if I had paid $15 for it, I wouldn't complain. I wasn't enthusiastic about the $15 because I already had a typing system I was happy with. That's it. I most certainly don't think we should get everything for free. But I'm not going to rush out and buy the latest and greatest thing just because everyone else loves it if it's not something I think I feel like I need.

Honestly, I went all the way and baught an apple bluetooth keyboard. It hurt my wallet a lot, but now it's like having a minature laptop right in my pocket.

ArtRock, no, in the grand scheme of things, 15 bucks isn't muchk, when compared with the cost of the other technology you mentioned. However, compared to most other iPhone apps, 15 is a bit on the high side, for what you get.

I too decided to try Fleksy when it went on sale. Thus far I am not impressed. It does seem very cunbersome, and I am faster with the normal touch screen. That, and the copy/paste thing is a bit ridiculous. I've not given up on it completely, as I recognize that part of my opinion may be that it's so new to me. After all, I was not impressed with my iPhone when I first got it, but I've grown to be very glad I have one. However, as Dirty Little Oar aptly put it, I also have yet to see why people are so orgasmic over Fleksy.

sometimes i do wonder bout the cost of apps. now 20 dollars for an app like bookshare's read to go is worth it, but 15 dollars for what to me sounds like a list of words? when i could probably type faster with the apple bluetooth keyboard, uh, naah.

the full version of fleksy is still on sale for $10. I purchased it today but haven't decided whether I like it yet.

I believe Fleksy's developers said that due to the support the ap has gotten, $9.99 is the ap's new perminent price.

The ap does take a bit of getting use to, that I will agree with. However, I personally have found it to be a great thing to have around. It's dictionary feature and a few other little perks in my opinion make it a lot better than the standard apple typing method.

The people who will complain about buying that ap for such a high price are probably those who are among those who believe that blind people should have everything on a silver platter. I'm not saying all complaining people are like that, just most. As has been pointed out previously, remember that the blindness market is a considerably smaller market than that of sighted people. Therefore, demand is less. Furthermore, the developers who are doing these things and writing these programs in an attempt to make our lives easier need to get paid too, and they really won't be if they give everything to blind people for free because they think they should have it all for free.
(End of rant)
